Direct coil spark plug cap....any thoughts?
A friend gave me a direct coil spark plug cap for my bike! My mechanic has left the country for xmas & new year, so advice needed from you guys.
He says all the Thai boy racers are fitting them to their souped up scooters, to help with high revving engines. He says they have a very high quality internal coil with no need for a ht lead, giving a much stronger more efficient spark.
I have no idea about these things or how to fit them or if it's even worth playing with.
Anyone ever used a direct coil or know anything about them?
Cheers

I doubt you'll notice any performance difference vs. your near new stock setup. They are more reliable long term than spark plug wires and better at high rpm. Every new car you buy now uses coil on plug. Don't think you could hurt anything trying it.

Anyone know the wiring strategy for fitting it properly?
I was hoping someone on here might have had some experience with these things. Don't wanna blow any main fuses etc.
The old, "if it ain't broke don't fix it!"
If I'm wrong and the units shown are plain coils without electronics, they will probably work with your cdi, but may not match very well. Long term reliability could be impaired.
I'm quite sure the units you show are "smart" COP, with onboard electronics and power driver. They don't work with the ignition pulse provided by your cdi, rather they work with a digital low power signal (0-5V or 0-12V). The ignition pulse from your cdi will probably destroy the driver inside the COP.

That's not what I wanted to hear but at least I have some information that it is not as easy as 2 wires. I think I will wait for my mechanic to come back in the new year before tinkering with this!
btw, the guy that gave it to me said he thinks it maybe from a Honda 1300, but really not sure.
The numbers stamped on it are F6T558 on top & 2412 underneath, with a Mitsubishi logo.
EDIT: Done some googling & found they are Mitsubishi F6T558 coil packs - generally for some R6's & R1's of around 2005+

Thinking about it a bit more, the smart COP have three wires while those who are just a coil have two. The latter could be used on your bike and will probably work fine for some time at least.
