Default Different Gearing

I have a 2007 KLX 250S and I was wondering if I could change my sprokets and chain to make it a litter better on the road. Looking for less RPMs at a higher speed. Any ideas?

14/39 Will do good! This web site will help you out if you looking for a specific RPM@SPEED, gearing commander Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Speed, RPM, Chain & Sprockets Calculator

I have run a 15/39, great for the road, have to run 5th up to around 60 to stay in decent power when accelerating up a bit. But it would cruise quite easily at 70.

Try getting the 15 front sprocket first. Your stock gearing is 14/42. One up on the front is about equal to three down in back, so 15/42 is about the same as 14/39. It's easy and cheap to change the front sprocket, well, once you bust that damn countersprocket nut loose. It can be a bear. And going with a one tooth change up front shouldn't require a different chain length.

15 up front for me. Works great. It's like gaining a 7th gear.

This is the one I put on my 14. I am sure someone can verify if 07 is the same.

Hey ac800 I think your in luck. I believe the 07 is different but the same as a klx300. I ordered a 15 for my kdx that was made for a klx300 in hopes that it would fit. It did not but later I found a kdx one.

I just remembered I fired it on the shelf. It's brand new and your welcome to it.

Mostly I've bought JT sprockets both a the dealer and on ebay. Pricing isn't so high as to be of much difference. I'm thinking JTs are about as low buck as they get.

Should I be buying a new chain or will the existing one work?

Stock works fine with 15 42.
