That would be the catch tank. It collects oil that would otherwise spill from the engine onto the race track. An oil slick is a big NO NO at a track.

 

I'm guessing an oil catch tank for the engine breather, by the way the hoses are running.

They are used when you put an air filter -usually K&N style- directly on the carb or EFI throttle body for increased performance. The filter has no fitting for the crankcase breather.

I did that with mine, but my catch tank is located where the air box used to be. It's just a tank that you run the crank case breather to once the air box is gone. That way the oil won't be going all over the ground if you take a spill.

The oil catch tank doesn't improve performance but it is a by-product of mounting an air filter or funnel directly to the carb or EFI throttle body, which does improve performance.
