Default Cutting Handle bars

My new Pro Tapers have marks on the ends that appear to be places to cut. My question is, How do you know you need them shorter? The marks seem very small in distance, could this little bit actually make a difference?
You only get one shot and cutting up my new bars doesn't seem like a good idea.
Let me know if anyone hascut their bars and why.

Its personal preference

Do a push up & have someone measure pinkey to pinky. That is YOUR bar width as a general rule.

OK., That makes sense..........Thanks.

Some things are just THAT simple.

Hey if anyone hasa spare set of the inserts used to keep the handguard in the handlebar, not the plastic tube, I would be most appreciated and pay shipping plus a small "thank you" fee.

I cut my pro tapers on my 110. Totally different beast then the 250 but the 110 bend was way to wide for me. If i remember correctly each line was a quarter inch and i cut two lines on both sides. Just cut very small amounts till you get what you like and use a pipe cutter ( hacksaw makes a pretty dirty job). And it is kinda preference if you should cut them or not, if YOU feel they are too wide cut em, but if not leave em.

I wanted wider bars for comfort, so I left them full width. If you ride a lot of tight technical stuff, you might need them narrower for tree clearance.

When setting up my bikes I sit on the bike, raise my hands above my head, close my eyes, then bring my hands down to where I would like the bars. Make sure you also stand to confim its feels comfortable in the standing position. I then rotate the bars to the position and trim the width to where my hands landed.

Ergonomics are personal and the bike should be set up for you. Good luck.

I didn't cut as I found I needed all the real estate for levers indicators mirrors etc.
