Curiosity : What RPM do you drive at?
I've just been wondering since I installed my 13/47 gearing at what RPM in town you guys roll at. I usually keep it low (5000-6000 RPM) and that brings me up to like 65 KM\hr lol. So slow with 13/47 gearing. Lots of you guys out there run the same set up as mine, if i\m doing 7k RPM am I over doing it? I've been taught since I got my first bike at 12 to ride in the 5k area and I guess it stuck to me.

The wife kept up to me the other day on her KLX with the 13 tooth C/S for a 20km ride at 105kph(65 mph)
Just make sure the oil level and cooling system are in good shape and ride that sucker like you stole it! Frankly, IMHO the tach on these bikes is a complete waste of space

If you are riding around town there is no need to run any higher than 6000rpm. Other than moving from a stop or on the highway I try and get it in the max torque range of the motor and that is that 5000 to 6000rpm window.
The bike has a 6-speed tranny so that we can keep the motor in the max torque range.
I can ride around town in the city (less than 45mph zones) and never see above 6000rpm. On the highway where I can see 70 mph that is still only 7000 rpm with the gearing I have on my bike now that it is a 340 motor. 15T front and the stock 39???T rear on the SF model.

LOL!! Luckily it doesn't take up much space. 
I'd rather have the analogue cluster even if it does weigh more.

I ride mine at 6-7K rpm a lot of the time commuting (regardless of gearing), bike has almost 33,000 miles and is going strong. Banged the rev limiter by accident the other night passing someone, I was just trying to squeeze that extra rpm before shifting, but it wasn't there...
Slabbing it this weekend to the Jersey shore, I'm sure most of the trip I'll have it near WOT. I just make sure the oil level is good and go! Running for extended periods (I mean hours) at high rpm I've noticed more oil in the catch bottle from the airbox, not much more, but definitely more.
Luckily, I have streetish gearing right now(14-43), my trail gear (13-47) sucks on the highway.
Are you over doing it? Only if your bike is running excessively lean or low on oil...
