Default couple easy questions gearing and lowering

hello i am new to this fourm, i was wondering i have a 07 kxl250 i bought a few days ago and iv toped it out at 75 mph so i am first wondering what the stock gearing is and what gearing i should get to get 80-85 mph easy and also i need to drop it about 1 to 1.5 inches and i am not going to buy one since i am a machinist and can make one for free so the stock dogbone is 117MM how much longer or shorter do i need to go to get it lower. and if everything goes well i should be able to make a bunch of the lowering kits that i could sell real cheap to u guys for helping me out. thank you for your help.

Kouba is famous for his lowering links (longer links make the bike set lower, and also affect other suspension characteristics - do your research if you haven't already). There are some knock offs of fleabay. Zomby has done the 'most 'hands-on' research from what I can tell here.

Stock gearing on my '06 (same as your '07) is 14 tooth front and 42 tooth rear. See the gearingcommander.com site. You can plug in this bike and it defaults max rpm to the top of the curve, so you can see if other gearing will take you to 80 (have fun with that --- be safe).

Congrats on the bike!! Take care of the plastics, because no one makes aftermarket shrouds. I'm always on the look out for some stock green ones for an "07" . You want to sell the ones you have?

To get more top speed you will need a "can of *****". It tops out around 80 or so and will no matter how tall you gear it. I went to a 351 cylinder (big bore) and it still goes 85 topped out with a 15/39 gearing.

For the lowering link, you may want find someone with an '09 that wants to get that inch of ground clearance back the Kawasaki took away and swap links with them.
