considering rear sprocket and footpegs
I came across a set of pegs in dirt rider magazine (powerpegz), they rotate a little and this is supposed to improve stability on the peg and improve shifting..has anyone tried these pegs?..I didn't search them out yet to see if they even fit our bikes, but thought i'd ask before sourcing them out.
Also, I am currently running 13/42 gearing and am thinking of going to 13/45 and the 108 link chain..what difference will i see in the bike by doing this? I currently ride the pavement about 5 miles to work at 50-65 MPH and it revs about 500 rpm higher than stock...what will it rev at the 13/45 ratio? or will i lose the top end altogether?

It will be the same jump as you just had, so figure another 500-700 rpm at cruising speed. Dropping 1 tooth in the front is the same as upping it 3 in the rear.
I did read a thread about someone using a 43t rear sprocket off a KX500. I am currently running 13/42 which is good - but maybe 13/43 could be the 'happy medium'. We have a new kawi dealer opening up this weekend here in Mackay -(extreme kawai closed a few weeks ago. Now the same proprietor is opening Mackay Kawasaki in a much better location than the last shop. So when they open is shall get a 43t rear. - I will keep ya posted.
Will the change be as drastic as going to the 13 on the front....I found that a big change, especially the "closeness"of the gears..i found you could really get from 1st to 6th pretty quick..I don't know if I would want to shorten them up anymore, BUT what I would like is the ability to crack the throttle and the front end come up..will the 45 make it any easier for me to do that?...I can get the front up by slipping the clutch in 1st, but still haven't masetered a catwalk by any means.
I have tried out the stock, 13/42, and now have the 13/45. You won't loose any top speed but your bike will be running higher RPM's. Just like Josh said going to the the 45 rear is about the same as when you went to the 13 front. If most of your riding is off road you will love the change! If you are doing a lot of street riding it's also great but at highway speeds the higher RPM's get annoying.
Yep, same thing Eric, divide the rear sprocket by the front and you'll find that they only vary in the X.X0 number 3.46 to 3.43. Very minimal difference, none that you'd ever notice. As soon as I get around to placing my RMATV order I'll be trying out a 14/50 combo which is 3.57.
Thanks..that settles that..I'm ordering the 45 and new chain..most riding I do is off-road, just the occasional "let's go for coffee"trip to Tim's to check out who's around..a lot of bikes have started gathering at one of our local Tim Horton's in the evenings..so it's nice to check out some of the bikes..(and park the muddy dirtbikes right smack in the middle of all the shiny bikes...they like that)
