Well On a ride last winter over at Reiter (Washington State) there were 4 of us on KLX's and a couple of Yamaha's doing all kinds of trails and well there was this one guy on a KTM 950 adventure bike, and he made us all look like noobs. So it is possible, just takes a little more skill and determination. Oh and you gotta be in good shape to throw a big bile like that around.

True enough. Ned had two bikes with him, on day 1 he was riding his KTM 950 Super Enduro, you can see it above with the 20x number on the side. He rode that in the Baja 1000 this past fall. He was amazing on that thing and it is a real bad a$$ bike if you could handle it. On day 2 he elected to use his KTM 450 EXC.

Ned did some amazing stuff, a lot of which just made my jaw drop. On day 2, he totally cleaned one section of trail and came back down and told us if you want a challenge try this section referring to what he'd just been on. I did it, but I got hung up at one point, however I recovered and made it up using some of my new mad skilz. Another fellow did about what I did, he was on the TE450 and was a good rider. And a third took 10 minutes of slipping and sliding and falling over about a 1/2 dozen times but he eventually made it up. Only the three of us tried it, everyone else elected to go the easy way.

A little farther up that trail, it split left and right. The trail that split left was full of a bunch of big rocks and ledges and Ned was up ahead of me on it and I saw him struggling to get up. That part reminded me of Last Man Standing stuff. I knew right then after he had cleaned the section before so easily that I thought was pretty hard, and seeing him struggle on that section that I better take the right split. No one else attempted it, so I was not alone. The right split was hard enough. They both came out at the same spot about 300 yards on up the hill. The top of that trail where they came out is the photo that has the yellow trail marker "3" and labelled "Difficult".

Here are the tracks from the two days of riding. I had my GPS stashed in my pack and recording the whole time. Here they are overlaid onto Google Earth. Click for full size.

There is also a big difference in weight between the bimmer and the KTM. Agree whole heartedly on the skill factor though.
