i'll give that a try. I might just put washers where it bolts on at the end there to add some angle and space. One would assume that the weight of the rider would also cause the tank to move up against the frame. just a brutal design flaw i think. we'll see how it goes. I think if this one leaks i'm going to send it back and not even bother with it, and just get a new stocker.

I never even thought of the rider weight thing, glad I cut away a ton of clearance ! I'll tell you what, though, it is great to have more gas than the other riders in my group...I never have to worry about being "the one". Most rides I don't even bring a gas tank cause we typically run 10 or 20 miles under a 100 in a hard days ride. And if I go out with my dual sport buddy who has a bigger tank on his 97 Honda, we can go pretty far. Our best so far has been about 70 miles to a gas station, then back to the truck. That ride had plenty of dirt and gravel roads so it was easier, but a lot of fun.

The problem isn't the stock tank range with a stock bike, it's the stock tank range with mods.......just mount that Clarke right and get it over with. Once done you'll never look back.

yah i like to ride WFO too. theres a local offroad area about a half hour drive from my house that i can get to and back without filling up, but that doesnt leave much time to play around there.

I'm going to investigate it a little closer when I get home. All i really was concerned about was getting it mounted and filling it up to see if it leaked. didnt even really screw with the seat clip at all. Grinding out a notch might be teh way to go in the end. I wonder if its even necessary to re-enforce? I would say half a centimeter would be more than enough to grind out.

Truth be told, I originally considered just watching for stress cracks but figured since everything was apart why not just do it. Especiallywhile dealing with the2nd tank. It was just too easy to plug in my wire feed and weld in a piece of metal there !

I'm really thinking about just letting it go and seeing what happens, although if it breaks before or during my may long weekend camping/biking trip i'd be hella pissed off.
