Default clarke tank installed

So I brought it home with me last week and put it on just a couple days ago. It looks good, and fit ok I thought. I'm going to have to change the screw and spacers for the seat clip like others did, but I dont think i'm going to be able to get rid of the gap between the rad shroud and the seat. Don't really care though. My concern is, as brought up by another member, is the brass fitting touching part of the frame. I'm worried that over a long period of use, it will vibrate and cause a leak. Fingers crossed. If only it was moved back like a centimeter or so that woudl have been perfect.

Sorry, no pictures yet I didn't have time. Just wanted to make sure it doesnt leak, and so far it doesnt. I'll be home in about 10 days or so and will have pics, including the new handlebars, grips, headlight and tank .

Cheers

Was there a lot to do to make it fit? Or does it pretty much drop right in. I'm thinking about one but don't know how much of a pain it's going to be.

It really wasn't bad at all. Just getting the seat on is trickier thats all really.

How much do you think your range will increase before you need to re-fuel?

If any part of thatoutput is touching the frame, you might get that leak. I had to send mine back after about 10 hours of riding. I didn't see the issue until then but they sent me a new clear tank (both were clear). I took a grinder to where it rubbed and now have clearance there. I also welded some bracing to the other side of that engine mount bar for the heck of it since I have a wire feed, but I don't think grinding some of the bar away will really matter.

im not surewhat kind of milage to expect. I got about 80 miles before i went to reserve if i remember right on thestock one.

rkutzner, i'm definately fearing that, but i definately dont wantto grindthe frame. Anyone else notice thetouching? Maybe I can move it back just a hair somehow.

Was your 80 miles after you jetted the carb? Where are you getting the rub?

Do you know anyone who has a welder? You're not really grinding the perimeter frame, just a round crossbrace that may or may not be only for the engine mount. Since I was able to weld on support from the front side, I ground out enough to give over 1/16" of clearance.

The only way I could see to move it back was to cut off the front tank mounting tabs and move them back a hair, but then you are cutting near and welding to the perimeter frame. I was more afraid of weakening that, but I'm no expert. In any case, if it is touching, I guarantee the vibrating will eventually work the brass loose in the plastic and the slow leak will develop.

They need to fix that, for sure.

I get ~80 miles before hitting reserve IF riding mostly in second/third gear, like on switchbacks. I'm sure if I could spend time in 3rd/4th and even 5th I would get over 100. And my jetting is 40 pilot/3rd clip/128 main.....

I'll have to double check to see if its touching completely or just very very close. My buddy welds but its hard to meet up wtih him. Got a pic of where you welded?

See if you can get a piece of paper between the tank and the bar. If you can't, you got trouble. But even that much isn't enough when you are bouncing that 25 pounds of gas all over the place. I even put some rubber/foam stops on top of the frame under the tank to limit movement.

The extra metal is welded in front of the bar where you have to grind, closer to the top of the bar and out of the way of the engine mount bolt. It really is an easy weld, just put wet towels over everything so no splatter hits any electrical wires or vacuum or gas lines. Then paint and ride.
