Up to you if you want to spend the little amount. I continue to run motorcraft in my 99 powerstroke. 277k and still goin strong. Its always had original Ford parts in it so why change somthin that dont need it? Now if it was leakin or usin oil, i would prob try somethin else to maybe fix the prob. Or you could just drive a new truck under the radiator cap haha

My jeep grand cherokee with 350,000 miles on it, burns oil. Not much, but enough to notice a blue haze if it idles in direct sunlight (LOL). So being a auto tech, the last thing in the world I am going to do, is actually fix the problem. Which is worn valve guide seals. But alas, I've tried all the snake oils and smoke treatments there is. I've tried synthetic, semi synthetic, and cheap bulk oil. The only oil I found that didnt burn or smoke was 15-40. Dirty ass lookin diesel oil. I understand why, but I think it illustrates that synthetic oil isnt always the best to use. The more worn out the engine, the thicker the oil it takes "to fill the gaps". Whereas synthetic oil used in BMW's Mercedes, and Porsche, is like water.

it wont matter either way, trust me. oil is oil is oil, especially for something like an old chevy.

I was very shocked to see the black sludge that poured out of my engine after my first change to synthetic. This happened for the first three oil changes until the dino sludge had been washed out. I even used a little bit of oil during those first three changes. Then everything became clean and no consumption. I do believe that the synthetic has some sort of different additives to clean the engine.
