chevy truck question, changing to synthetic?

i know its not related to the klx but i was wondering if anybody knew if this was a good idea or not....

i have a 91' chevy 1500 350ci. ext. cab. and its got 223,000 miles on it and runs great. i have had it just over a year. i was wondering if i can switch to mobil 1 synthetic oil. i have been running regular castrol 10-30 and it doesnt seem to burn or leak a drop of oil. will i run into problems by switching to synthetic so late in its life? birning oil etc.. or should i just keep it the way it is and just change the regular oil out every 2-3 months like i have since i bought it. thanks guys!

I would say leave it as is. I have seen leaks appear when switching to synthetic on older high mileage motors.

If you make a change to synthetic at that kind of mileage the only thing you should do is change your filter mid term, at around 1,500 mi. The reason is that syn. have much more detergents than conventional oils and they may clean alot of old sludge out of the crankcase and plug the filter, causing it to go into bypass mode and recirculating all the junk. Go to bobistheoilguy.com for anything you want to know about oils and filters. It is run by a group of sae engineers. I would probably leave well enough alone. Hope this helps.

I have a 65 Ford Galaxie with 165,000 on the clock. I recently changed to one of those high mileage oils and have had good success. I haven't seen any new leaks or signs of burning. Might want to look into one of these.

I would just stick with regular oil.

It won't make any difference. If you want to switch, go ahead.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. 223,000 miles so far so good with your castrol 10/30. Stick with it, it's cheaper and why would you want to change now.

I like M1 synthetic. I ran it from 60,000 to 177000 miles in my last chev 350, a 98 model.

At 223,000 on a throttle body 350 from 20 years ago. No, don't mess with it. Continue to run that castrol dino. I also use and like castrol oil.
