I know Aerostitch has a ad for a trip of the next island south - the island of Hokkaido, which is the northern most island in Japan.
I've been to Sapporo and it's a great town. Lots of mountains and I would love to ride that area. Absolutely awesome.
It's been a few years since I've been there, but I'll bet that part of the country has not changed all that much!

I will be taking my bike to Hokkaido next summer. Waited too long to buy the friggin ferry tickets last time...the were booked solid for two weeks [:@]
