Yep its a Pelican 1200, I saw a Pelican case at work yesterday from a group from the Seattle Aquarium, it was the exact size of the 1200 but twice as high. I think that would have been cool.

Well it depends on how you get on the bike. I use the horse mount from the left side. To get off I put my right foot in front of the right foot peg and turn the bars to the left and swing my left leg up and over the case. But if it were twice as high my leg would would probably hit it.

i am a little short but am able to get on the bike without trouble. i had my sons helmet on the rack today and had no trouble so i think i will be good with the 1300.
i have read alot of your posts they are quite informing and entertaining good luck on your canada trip.

It was the right size for me, just carries tools etc, but I believe there is a wide range of sizes available.
I think they are designed/promoted for use on boats as a secure, water proof hard case.
The strap around the middle of the case was an add on by me so as to limit the chances of tools flying everywhere when I crash.
And I do crash from time to time.
Used a strap from inside an old piece of luggage.
