Yes there definitely should be an O-ring.

There should be an O-ring, washer and spring. Checkinside the hole with a magnifying glass..the O-ring is tiny.It should be at the bottom of the hole or maybe it got hung up on the threads on the way out. Don't put the Kouba in until you find that little bugger or you might just squish it into the threads...don't ask me how I know that! If it's not in there, maybe someone goofed during assembly. TheO-ring only comes as part of aset (screw, spring, washer,O-ring) from Kawi.

Yep, it was there. Cleaned my reading glasses (getting old sucks) and got out the mini Mag lite and could see the washer over the o-ring. I always watch the tip of the needle when I gently seat it so all is good. I am going to finish putting it back together in a little bit as last night I had to run back to the hardware store to pay big $$ for tiny SS lock washers. For anyone interested, I got the stainless steel cap screws and the best size (if you ask me) is 4mm x 7 pitch x 16mm long.
