I use any of the permatex ultra series of rtv silicone to help seal the v/c gasket. I'm pretty sure that the oe specs some type of sealant where the gasket transitions over the moon eyes on the side. Just make sure that you get all of the oil off of the surface and put a thin film on the gasket with your fingertip-don't goop it on as to much can allow any stray pieces into the crankcase.
