Default cam chain tensioner revisit

Sometimes I think I know things that I dont. For instance, the last two weeks I've been starting my bike 2-3 times a week and running it for 10 minutes then run it out of fuel and let her sit. Well I've had this horrific valve noise since my last ride a month ago. It was to the point yesterday that I had convinced myself there was no oil pressure getting to the valves, I mean noisy as hell. I've been an auto mechanic/electrical specialist for 10+ years. So again I thought I knew some things LOL. Well today I got off work early and loaded up my tools to bring home. I've been meaning to try to click my cam adjuster one more click just to see if it was chain noise. But I was so convinced it was a valve issue I was developing and not a chain being sloppy and noisy. So for turds and grins I clicked it one click tighter. Fired the bike up and it was as quiet as it should be. THANK GOD. I had planned on letting the bike sit all winter and when my tax return comes, I was going to do something about it, HEHEHEHEHE now I dont have to worry about it, SO I can now plan on having a 351cc kit installed and running by the end of february. Its been about a month since I've ridden off road, and two weeks since I rode on the street. I am suffering serious KLX withdrawls. And the worst part is I have to suffer for more than a month possibly two.
I just realized this was a rambling post. Sorry for those who read the whole thing LOL.

I read the whole thing. Your posts crack me up. I think I know things I dont too.
Do that 351 take pics and post it all up. I dont think any one has really documented the change over.
Glad your fix was easy.

Ah ... your problem? You're an experienced mechanic/tech = you "know too much for your own good".

Like after you've owned a new vehicle for a while and suddenly start hearing all kinds of strange noises that you'd bet your left kidney weren't there before and can't be good.

You're not alone amigo, you're not alone. There are others out there suffering from same condition. I often find relief in asking an absolute clueless total newbie if THEY hear anything strange. "If no - let it go", "If yes - oh s##@ something really is wrong!"

Glad it was a simple fix.

KLX withdraws. I haven't ridden in about a month. Been too sick and its too cold outside. Don't feel like riding and then suddenly have to puke in my helmet. Once I'm back to normal, I'm riding. Cold outside or not.

Can anyone tell me if the 05 KLX 125 cam chain tensioner is manual or automatic? If it's manual, how do I adjust it?

The cam chain tenioner is supposedly automatic, but it seems every one including me had to manually make it work to make the clicking noise stop. The following thread shows how to manually adjust the cam chain tensioner.

Thanks for the link. The KLX is a little different, but I had figured it out. The adjuster does not really adjust automatically. I had to manually adjust it in small increments until it worked.
