Default Burnt Rubber

Well, plastic anyway, on my muffler.
Is there a non-evasive way to get this melted plastic crap off of there without ruining the finish? Acetone? Gasoline?

Whenever I melt some of the side panel onto the muffler, I just let it harden, then peel it off.

Sometimes a heat gun works to soften it up for removal. Otherwise; do some off-road riding! After dropping it a few times, you'll notice the scratches more than the melted plastic.
