Bought A Dakar
Okay I made the jump - I now own a 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar ABS! Picked it up in this wicked hellish heat this afternoon (with the humidity factor it was like 118 degrees out there) - felt like I was riding in Death Valley (the 20 miles home felt like 200).
So I paid $3600 for her but it does have 42,000 miles. Looks and runs good, the parts that have been replaced are the rear shock with an Ohlins, radiator, rear rotor and brake pads, chain, rear sprocket, front springs with progressive springs (owner saved all the old parts and gave them to me). Also came with the BMW tank bag, BMW side cases, an extra BMW saddle (low) and odds and ends.
Was going to really start an in-depth look at it but the fricken garage is pushing 110 degrees.
Here some pics - let me know what you think.

That was a great deal! No need to worry about the miles, it's like dog years and man years when compared to many other bikes.
The Ohlins shock is a nice bonus, ditto the BMW tank bag.
I used to have one of those bike and they sure are nice for more road oriented dual-sporting. Good bike, have fun with it.

The Dakar owners on advrider.com said pretty much the same thing about the mileage - "no worries mate"! We will see and since summer (the blast furnace months) lasts until the first of November here it will be a while before I can really "dance" with her.
definally a good find. now to build that into this.

Not much to not like about that bike. Rotax thumper engine with EFI
I think the seat height might be a bit tall for inseam challenged riders like myself.
Good to hear what the previous owner did with the suspension. The front forks are probably the weak point of the bike. A lot of Dakar owners have installed YZ USD forks (I forget what year and make) and say they are the 'cat's meow.'
Congrat's! I know you'll enjoy the bike.

Nice bike man.
I nearly bought a new G650GS last year.
(in fact a very, very nearly went for the F800GS)
Both were sweet bikes.
The Dakar is quite tall, well for me anyway.
The new G650 has a no cost lowering kit option which made it OK.
