Ahhhh a broken expander ring. If it was overlapped, it must have been a bitch to install the piston in the barrell. If you installed the rings onto the piston yourself, you are fortunate to get a replacement set FOC. Did it score the bore as sometimes there's a broken piece of ring looking to wedge itself somewhere?

Bill had installed the rings himself before shipping. I used a band clamp around the piston, and it slid home first try with no drama or bad words. I don't think there was any damage to the liner, but then again, it's back at Bill's.

Fair enough. Have a good look at the cylinder & do a fingernail test before assembling.
