Bike won't run when choke is turned off..
Aloha all. It's been a while since I've had some free time to spend on here. Workin retail can kick your but during the holiday!
Thanks to Sid for those Rad guards, got them on and they work great. And I can't remember who I got the Clarke tank from but it showed up in fine condition, just haven't had time to install it yet.
So on to the topic at hand;
I use the term "bike" loosely here. It's actually my quad that is having the trouble. The KLX is doing great. I figure with all the knowledge on here that someone might have some helpful input before I spend to much time shooing in the dark.
It is a Yamaha Grizzly 660 utility style quad. I only have 115 miles on it (still inside of break in period) and it has always run well. In the year or two I've had it I've on had to put gas into it a few times (five gallon plus tank). I've also recently jumped it with a car (which I now know is a bad practice, says the dealer). The oil looks fine and the coolant is a touch low but fine. While jumping the quad will start and idle with the choke on. I can unhook the cables and the bike still runs. As soon as the choke is turned down to half or less it will cut off. I actual got the quad driving with the choke on but it was making a strange ping on decel that it never had before. So I quickly cut the engine and rolled it back into the garage.
So far I'm thinking I need to dump the fuel, 4 or 5 gallons (kinda hurts with today's fuel costs), and maybe clean the carb?
Did I blow some electronics by jumping it off a car?
Any helpful ideas would be greatly appreciated!

i would say the electronics are fine if you can get it running... its obviously a fuel problem, sounds like one of the jets is clogged up... You do know what the choke does right? at least on the klx, it restricts the airflow through the carb the same amount of gas is still going through as with the choke off but restricts the airflow so the air/fuel ratio has more fuel in it... so with the choke off that tells me that itsnot getting enough gas.... id change the gas, make sure there is no garbage in the tank, and take the carb off and clean it real good make sure the gas didnt turn to varnish on ya... and make sure all the jets are clear. Im no mechanic but thats where i would start.

what about running seafoam trough it. that would pretty much clean the carbs if they are clogged.

I'm going to bypass everyone elses input on this,,.....
dump the fuel......mix up 3 gallons of gas with some briggs and stratton fuel treat....6 ounces to the 3 gallons.....run about a half gallon out of the float bowl drain........close drain and try to fire her up.....it should work for your grizz.
IF IT DOES NOT........pull the float bowl.......and spray it out with carb cleaner.....I know it is easier said than done as the carb is a total nightmare to get out on the yami......BUT it must be removed and cleaned.....
no electronics here justa big cleanout..........Any more questions just feel free to ask and i can get you the answers,,,,,,i can get you an answer to any question you could imagine.....

Barring that, I'll take the meaning of life, I've always wondered????
