Are you wearing MX boots? Sometimes what you think can't happen is really your stiff toe hitting the shifter. Besides that, just make sure you are hard shifting in situations like that. What I mean is when you are heading to a hill, make sure to really pull the shifter into the gear. But to answer your first question, yes I have had that happen to me as well. You gotta think fast and hit the shifter down into first or you are going to lose momentum and head the wrong way. LOL

Its happened to me also. Did some work on the shift star and cured the problem.

fixer, the stock shifter is ridiculously short for most people, and you might not want to dismiss it as a possibility so quickly. It's so short that it is easily bumped from the side of your shoe or boot. Going to the shifter for a Honda XR650L is the best solution. Yeah, you could have a tranny problem of some kind, but the stupidly short shifter is the cause of lots of these issues.

Yep TNC is absolutely right. The only time I have bumped the shifter unintentionally is when I was wearing the MX boots. I look down and the side of the boot is on the arm leading to the actual shifter. Happens all the time. You have to constantly think of where your foot is all the time. I also think bigger foot pegs would help as well.

http://www.planetklx.org/techtips/shift-fix.html Here is a link to the information. My shift star was better than the one in their picture, but after I filed the ends to a point I almost never miss a shift and the false neutral doesn't happen. I didn't use the dowel they show, I didn't like it.
