Default Beating a dead horse (rear turn signals)

Figured id post my experience with my rear turn signals that i had today.

I was on a mission to ride the railbed from northeast PA to the NY border today... I got close, but came to a large washout. seeing a trail that looked like it went around it i jumped on the trail.. after 100 yards or so it was obvious that this was a totally diff trail so i stopped to turn around. The trail was very narrow requiring me to get off to turn the bike around. When i went to grab the rack for leverage to push the bike backwards.. whats this SH&T?!!! BOTH turn signals broken at the weld and hanging from the wires!! I couldnt believe it and the disgust and disappoint ran deep...

I got the bike turned around and back on the main trail then stopped to operate on her. Upon closer examination i realize that the right side signal has convienently decided to lay smack dab on the side of the exhaust melting itself to it and making a nice mess... Well after busting out the tool kit (thank god for that) and getting both signals disconnected and safely in my backpack im off back home mission failed.

Upon getting back first thing i do is call the Stealership to see what they can do to fix this situation. The person i talked to in the service department (of Rusty Palmers)was a total A#@hole and should def not been workin the phones. I was told it was the first time that they have heard of this problem blah blah blah.. the fekkin bike is not even 2 months old. I was going to just bring the rack and turn signals to them to fix to save me bringing the whole bike for something so simple. The *cough* gentleman *cough* that i talked to told me in no uncertain terms that i had to bring the whole machine to get it fixed under warranty. So tommorrow i will take the rack with me to work and reweld it myself and respray it (black). Now the thing that really burned my as@ is the fact that i paid $350 for the extended warranty and they cant even be decent on the phone with me and work with me a little on fixing it... by the tone and voice the guy was using i was an annoyance to him and not a customer. nuff said about the stealership. ;/

OK, now the breakdown on what caused the failure. I think that the turn signals mounts are not defective in themselves (from my experience) I think that they definitely should have been welded better and beefier as they are welded for looks (which translates to tinya$$ welds only on the inside). I have biffed a couple of times on this bike laying it down on its sides and pushing the rear turn signal mounts one way or the other. The repair was a simple bend back and keep trucking... i believe that due to the weld bein so cheezy that one or two bends compromises the welds and a little vibration will finish em off. Im posting this situation to make up for the fact that i saw one or two posts of the similiar nature and blew em off.. thinkin hahaha not my bike... well guess what? i was totally wrong and maybe this post will convince one or two others to take care of the signals before you end up with one melted to the side of your muffler.

Default RE: Beating a dead horse (rear turn signals)

Thanks, jsac. This seems to be a problem that many have encountered. On more than one occasion I've finished a ride and noted my rear blinkers at an angle and bent them back straight. I've been meaning to take my rack off and take to my friend's who has a welder and have him strengthen them up. This will prod me to do it sooner rather than later - blinker melting onto exhaust adds a who new level of consequence to not taking care of it before it's too late.
