I see $236 USD (est) for the 300 kit plus a set of OEM gaskets, all including shipping.
Given that its actually a 292cc, that is $5.61 per CC you're buying (42cc).

351 kit is $533 USD plus shipping, including shipping your old jug to them.
Call it $600 (est)
$5.94 per CC you're buying (101cc).

Total cost is more for the 351, but per CC you're buying its close to the same. I guess its true what they say: Speed is just a question of money, how fast do you wanna go?

And hopefully a not stupid question:
What rings are meant for iron plated cylinders? Would we use rings for standard steel sleeves, or for plated sleeves?
Thinner/lower weight/ possibly lower cost for the spray liner.

Here is the word for Wiseco:

Most modern Powersports engines use a Nikasil (Nickel Silicon) type of material plated onto the aluminum sub-material. Nikasil appears shiny (like chrome) when new, and is highly resistant to wear. All Wiseco rings are compatible with Nikasil, and will offer long service life and great sealing and performance.

Some other popular versions of Nikasil-like cylinder bore coatings can be called Electrofusion (Kawasaki) and Boron Composite (Suzuki). All Wiseco rings are compatible with these materials.

Some older model engines still use cast iron cylinder walls, which is a sleeve that is either inserted or cast into the cylinder. All Wiseco rings are compatible with cast iron sleeves. A cast iron sleeve will appear somewhat obvious, where the liner will be a different color than the cylinder, will appear to be a separate piece of the cylinder, and will attract a magnet.

Some older model engines use a chrome plated cylinder, and are becoming harder to find. A chrome cylinder can appear like a Nikasil cylinder, so it is always good to research your engine prior to installing a ring. Only some Wiseco rings are compatible with chrome plating. These ring types are normally non-coated, such as a cast iron ring face, to prevent the ring from scuffing the bore and not working properly.

To prove numbers can show whatever one wants...

The BB kit is Two Times The Cost!

In Canadian dollars, 299 kit $173, Cometic gasket $39, China SS slip-on $49, all with free shipping, total $261 ( my Motoz Mountain Hybrids cost $250 )

BB351 kit $667 plus shipping x 2 (core) = over $700 then add the pipe of your choice ..........$500+ difference

This is a cheap experiment for me. If I or the 299 fail then it goes back to a low mileage 250

Here is a great source for piston ring information, although some of it may be more proprietary than general.

Hastings piston rings
Thanks for the reply ,Klx678. The rails alone ,have a .010" gap. With my fingers I can get it the installed oil ring down to about .125", so there is no way to slide the piston in by hand on the bench. Maybe that is normal. I don't know.

When I get some time,I'll dig up some links.

The slip-on is well made but it comes without a mid pipe, you or a buddy with a welder need to fab one up.

the bike I bought came with an FMF slip on, and I'm not too worried about the header. I'm more looking at the piston/jug and the gasket kit.
where did you order them?

Both from ebay and I see I forgot about a $63 shipping charge on the kit.
The seller is sold out of the kits, it was tongtong-motor on ebay

Same kit from another seller and a little more $ 78mm Cylinder Assy Piston Rings Pin Clip Head Base Gasket For Kawasaki KLX 250 R | eBay

Gaskets also sold out but this seller is even cheaper Cometic Gasket Top End Gasket Kit 78MM Bore (C7302) | eBay
