Lay a 6" ruler or stretch a tape measure across the top of the jug so we get a idea of size.

Note to all I was in contact with Bill Blue and even with the crack the original cyl can resleaved so I think it will end up a BB331 for the GF's I just have to iron out some details like whether I can keep the same piston and rering or is his piston different than KK.

Going to work on putting up photos now.
Nice...on both counts

Why in the world woul you go 331 when you can go 351 for $40 more?
That's like telling your GF you have 7" but you can only give her 6".
WTF???? You can't be planning on using the old piston with over 10K on it..

Gary
331 is more than enough for the GF. She is happy with 250 and I will have to sell her on any upgrade at all. She allready said she did not want one. I figure on slipping it in when I put on a pumper carb(She;s down with that becuase of the easy start)
But yes I would plan to use the same piston as it looks fine. ReRing'd of course.
Cheers Jim

The cylinder is cracked so it'll be a wet sleeve anyway. Might as well. Then again, it's only 20ccs. There are a lot of WR450s out there to be had under $3,000. Baja kit is another $500.

After hearing the KK lasted 10,000 miles of pavement in that heat, I'm thinking about going that direction if I do decide I need more displacement.

Would it be safe to say that the Kawasaki 300 kit would last as long as a stock 250 setup? Or not?

It would be hard to qualify this with absolute positivity, but I can't see why the 300 wouldn't last as long. The bottom end of the KLX engine is somewhat overbuilt. The cylinder head and valve train would receive no more stress. I'd say the weakest link might be the clutch.

I've gone from the 250 to the 300 cylinder on my '06. It requires less revving and less clutch slippage. I'd say it makes life on the clutch and other components a little easier. The engine has only grown from 249cc to 292cc, so we're not talking a huge increase. However, the 292cc cylinder seems to be a great match to the rest of the engine. If you notice, the 300 piston actually seems to match the placement location of the valves in the head better than the 250 piston. The valve reliefs in the 250 go down the edge of the piston crown. I don't think this makes for an ideal fuel/air flow or flame front for combustion.

if you are going to use the same piston, send it to BB so he can at the very least match the bore to the WORN piston. I can guarantee the piston is no longer round and the side skirts are worn... not a good idea in any rebuild.
Sometimes we think about going cheap and end up spending double.
This makes no sense at all. Go for the NEW MATCHED piston, will have regrets if you don't.
