Default Asian spec KLX/D-tracker EFI update

Well, I've been monitoring the devlopment of an aftermarket programmer (Power Commander equivalent) for the EFI KLX/D-tracker over here in Japan.

It seems the company has hit a snag of sorts. They figured-out they would have to add an extra circuit to sense RPM and are now evaluating what it would cost them to mass produce the extra circuit. If the cost of production exceeds whatever number they came-up with, the whole project will be shelved.

Leave it to Kawi to come-up with a system that's extremely difficult to mod. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but not holding my breath. I think Kawi will lose sales in the long run, due to the simple fact that you can mod the WR250R/X to your heart's content. Too bad.

Looks like you may have to add a new Yamaha to your hangar.
I'll tell you there's nothing more trick than using my laptop to rejet.

The WR is the real deal, that's for sure.

However, with another day comes another update.

R&D at Blue Lightning Racing just sent me another update.

To my suprise, the RPM sensor passed whatever cost analysis they were doing, so now comes an 'evaluation' which will be performed by a 'professional rider.' Supposedly, the rider evalution is nothing much more than a formality.

How long it takes to tool-up and start production is another story. I'm glad to here the news though, because kawi would have lost a major group of customers if you couldn't increase the performance.

I hope my favorite supermoto rag does a test on this contraption soon.

If I ever run my D-tracker into the ground, I'm thinking the WR250X will be the bike of choice though. Maybe by then some large bore kits will be available

Default KLX250s EFI Programmer

Have you or anyone looked at using the dealer programmer for the EFI on the KLX 250s? I live in Indonesia and have the same problem with low end torque and response on my new EFI KLX 250s. I'm thinking of buying one of these if I keep the bike but wanted to see if anyone else has went through a similar exercise. I'm sure there will be some aftermarket programmers available at some point but probably not until Kawasaki introduces this bike into the US market which I hope they do soon!

EFI sounds like a good thing to have. But the only way I'll upgrade is to move up, not stay the same. Maybe Kawi will get the hint and offer a 450 thats street legal.

That would be exactly my mindset if I lived in the U.S. Too many advantages to having a 250 here in Japan though. One major thing is not having to roll though a vehicle inspection a every two years. As many mods as I have, that would be a real hassle. Through-on a large bore kit and you can still fly under the radar becuase the displacement listed on the registration remains the same

It also helps that the fastest you really need to travel in this country is about 100kph, which is normally well above most speed limits

Yes, every morning I hit around 100kph and I am leaving all traffic behind, watching the mirrors and side streets for the black and white's. The displacement listed on the side of my 351 still says 249cc, a special request I sent to Bill, just in case the police want to inspect it because of my loud A$s Delta exhaust....lol.
