Arrrrggg!!!
Wow talk about getting pretty pissed off today. Well I rode my VTX up to cycle gear to purchase a new chain for my KLX, got it, and came home. Well I put the new chain on the bike took it for a 10 minute spin around the block to heat the oil up and to heat the chain up to lube it real good. Ok well I get back, drain the oil, put a new oil filter in, and Vuala, the freaking bolt that holds the oil filter cover shears itself off and now I have the head of the bolt in my hand and the rest of the bolt is inside the bike [:@]. I still can't ride the damned bike, Ohh so mad!!! What the hell is the torque you have to use for those things. I've always sat it till it felt a little snug, thats it. This time it was still pretty loose and the thing just snapped right off. I was looking forward to riding it this afternoon too, been looking forward to it all week long 
Ok I just had to let off some steam cause I'm still pissed, go spend some money on the bike, come home, repair bike, something else breaks 10 minutes later that renders the bike completley useless again, not a very happy man today. So now what the hell am I gonna do about the rest of the bolt stuck inside the bike. Now I'm gonna have to take it to someone who specializes in this kind of thing and spend even more money and then the time it takes to load it up, take it there, have them work on it, and take it home. Arrggg. K, feeling a little better now. Who can perform the work I need on this bike?
Oh ya, I never filled the bike back up with oil because I did not want it to leak out from what I mentioned above. Its not ok to let the bike sit with no oil in it is it?? Do I need to take and fill it back up just to let it sit so that something is in it so it doesnt dry out, rust etc....

When I put the bolt in I hand tightened it all the way down till it was snug and used a ratchet to get it just a little more snug, not even 3/4 of a turn more after I hand tightned it it snapped, gawd.

The service manual doesn't list a torque for those bolts. Definitely a light touch is called for though, unless your bolt had a defect.
The drain plug calls for 15 Nm (11 ft-lb) if you need that.

I'm thinking my bolt did have a defect because I seriously didn't put any pressure on this thing. Can you guys tell me EXACTLY how you tighten these down so that I have it for future reference? Like I said I hand tightened it and then turned it about around 3/4" of a turn and it was still turning really easy, then it popped off, DOH!![:@]. I'm really worried about doing it again, that wasn't fun. Especially when my wife came downstairs and asked me something, I was so pissed, I told her very nicley to please go upstairs and I will answer the question later, so she bolted upstairs cause she new I was furious, lol

Well, I'm about as happy as I can be now. I went to my neighbors (neighbors a mechanic) house and told him the situation. He took the head of the bolt and put it back through the whole, and luckily enough the bolt broke in such a way that it would fit back together like a piece of a puzzle, the he screwed it out, whew, now that parts taken care of
. Ok now I have to go to home depot to see if I can find a cap bolt to replace the old Kawasaki one, do you think they will have one?
