Arrived in crate, now...It's Alive!!!
Just had the KLX arrive in a crate (metal). All fluids minus gas, front tire unattached, as was handlebar. Took about 3 hours to assemble with a buddy. Little tricky figuring out which bolts to use where, but it all went smoothly. Checklist that comes with the bike is good to follow (highly recommended if you only want to put it together once). Pics to follow, especially regarding not cranking on the screws that hold the front axel. Broke one off and had to figure out how to get the double male screw out and replace it.

RE: Arrived in crate, now...It's Alive!!!
Now you have a great bike with a nice truck!
|
RE: Arrived in crate, now...It's Alive!!!
yeah, that's a sweet truck. about the only truck I'd buy these days is a tacoma like yours with the TRD off-road or a new GMC Sierra Z71, they're sweet. Gas mileage would be the decider as they're sadly pretty much the same price. Those Toyota's are expensive as hell!

Now the bolts for the luggage rack were the hardest to install. The rubber inserts were very tricky to work around. Have to really jam it, then wiggle it past the rubber. Better than listening to it vibrating though.

RE: Arrived in crate, now...It's Alive!!!
Now time for the reward (notice beer on luggage rack).
Some inital riding notes. I have heard that the KLX if it has a weakness is that it is a little underpowered. I weigh 200 lbs and on the first rides out on the dirt I can't see it, and my buddy and I are going up some real goat trails. Gearing could be easier, but still. Right out of the box, no mods, this is the ultimate dual sport bike. At 7000', the carb needs to be broken in, but with the emission stuff set for sea level after a bit it is almost perfect. After a ride, I have a smile from ear to ear. I only wish the paperwork would get here sooner so I could get the license plate (dealer hasn't sent the dealer plates yet) and ride it to work as well. It's time to ride it like you stole it. Brain off gas on, lots of luck!

RE: Arrived in crate, now...It's Alive!!!
It looks like you did a great job of assembly, now you have two great bikes. With a KTM450 in the garage why would you need the KLX250? Not that it isn't a wonderful bike but that KTM is my dream bike.

It's easy to do, I got a mechanic friend to get the studs out and replaced them with exhaust studs, worked a treat Cheers |
