Default anyone install a kickstarter?...battery dead today

I just bought my KLX last friday and today I needed a kick starter and there wasnt one (main gripe with this bike). I was out trial riding behind a friends house and I stopped for a rest and killed the the engine...went back to start and continue the fun and it wouldnt start...nothing...no horn or anything (luckily I wasnt far from my buddies house)So I pull the side cover off and we check the battery...6.5v. I removed the battery and charged it for an hour. Upon re-installing my buddy noticed there was a wire connection unplugged so we plugged it in, reinstalled the battery and it cranked fine. I can only assume that the dealership unplugged this connection to charge the battery before I picked it up and never re-plugged it back in...therefore I rode 25 miles on just the battery and this plug disconnects the charging system somehow...whatcha think?

Anyway back to topic....I would really like to isnatll a kick starter on this but would like more info from those that have done this.

part # and price?
difficulty doing it?
any tips or tricks

thanks

Kawasaki PN 99999-0073 'Kit, Kick Starter'. $328.32 at Bike Bandit.com

Kinda steep and probably adds some serious weight.

I haven't actually seen one, but I don't think it's all in pieces like that when you get it. I'm pretty sure that gear assembly is all put together for you and all you do is remove the right side cover and slip it in place, replace the cover, then put on the kicker itself. I think you might be surprised at how easy it is to install. I thought about getting one for piece of mind, but the price is a major put-off.

well i have not seen one on the 250 so far. that only way that i can think of is goin to kawasaki.com and finding the parts diagram off of the KLX300R and then buy all the parts for it. but i think this is really exstensive and requires alot of breaking down the engine. so.

Go to that link & look at the pics. Note the kicker is removed on a 300 with the engine still in the frame. Looks easy to me. as mentioned Kawasaki sells a complete kit.

???? Did you read the other responses before you posted that? It's available in kit form from Kawasaki. It's right in the KLX250 diagram under optional items.
