I might just be going with the "grass is greener" thinking and I need to stick with my own lawn and make it work. I could stick a filter inline, it is a pressurized system with fuel pump in the tank and I am a bit worried about cutting a pressurized line. did a big ride yesterday, several hours to the other two school sites and came back, washing off bike and wouldn't start... the connection of fuel line at injector came apart so now I need to pull of side panels, seat, tank and reconnect it all up... just glad it happened at home rather than in the pouring rain on the side of the mountain....wondering if I am going to open the door to more of that with a filter in line but maybe that would be good... make it so when the filter starts to plug it blows the connection apart and I replace the filter at that point>...put it at a place i can get to it without taking the whole bike apart??? appreciate all the input. one other thot I had was another injector. One dude is parting out his klx and offered me a good price on his used injector, then I could swap out when 1 plugs up and clean it later when I am at a place with the proper tools/equip....???

Putting in an in-line fuel filter in the high-pressure line shouldn't be a problem. Just ensure that you use a filter that's designed for a fuel injected vehicle. On a car, a carb'd setup might run 3-5PSI, but a fuel injected would be between 45-100PSI. Not sure what PSI the EFI KLX250's use. Be careful when removing the hose, as their might be gas in it that's still under pressure - wear eye protection, away from open flame and wrap a towel around the area where you're disconnecting it (to catch and fuel that sprays/comes out). Also, ensure that the clamps you use (to clamp the fuel line to the filter) are for fuel injected lines.

Here's a link about de-pressurizing the fuel injection system (in a car, not a bike, so not 100% applicable) Depressurizing Fuel System for Fuel Filter Replacement

basically, they're saying to pull the fuel pump fuse while it's running, it will conk out, and then turn it off - at that point the pressure will be relieved in the system. I've done it without de-pressurizing, using the eye protection and rag method.

They make a little mesh sock you put into the gas tank right under the cap so the gas is filtered before even entering the tank. May be worth looking at.
