Default Another Successful Muzzy Installation

I fitted the Muzzy and Dynojet this afternoon. After 3 cans of rum and 2.5 hours later i gave the KLX a start (choke on). It kicked over like it does and boy is the Muzzy loud!!! I will order a quiet core for sure. I have to say a big thanks to TypeSH for the link to hmf engineering - Those instructions and photos were great, and apart from having big hands - had no trouble pulling the carb and doing the mods.

I took it for a quick spin and noticed a difference from around 4500rpm. I used the DJ needle on the 3rd clip, with the DJ128main, 2.5 turns out. I have no airbox snorkel. It doesnt backfire or anything, but I sense it could be slightly better. At live at 270m asl - (about 800-100ft) would taking the clip to 4th postion be a better option?

Cant wait for morning to come and take it for another spin - put it through its paces.

I think its about timeI make a signature

Are you running no lid or just no snorkel? I would try no lid. FWIW I have the 130, 4th clip, no lid, pipe, but I am at 300ccs & its perfect.

Awesome, you will notice especially on slow rides or trails that the heat will be a lot more on your right leg. Some of the guys have installed an aftermarketheat shield, some have used the stock one with a simple modification. Here is what I bought, Its actually for a large road bike, but I really like it, and now my leg stays cool.

+1 On the HMF photos, they were a great help. Dirt surfer also had an AWESOME write up too. The only pain i ran into was actually pulling out the carb. The choke got in the way so i had to fumble it a bunch. Thats some nice time you had too, 2.5 hours. Well done!

On the quiet insert, i have one and put it in and the thing sounded awesome. But for curiosity sakes, I took it out just to see. I honestly didn't notice a difference at all. Either way get the kit because you'll want the spark arrester I'm sure.

I would also go #4 clip too. I'm running 124 main and #4 and i'm at 3500 ft. Also have no airbox.I notice the same I dont get much pull until after 4500, but thats not to say its no good below that. I'm still waiting to see what the 13/45 gearing does.

I have a question for you muzzy guys though. When putting it together, the instructions said to assemble the mid pipe and the muffler first (with springs) before bolting on. I couldnt quite get mine to fit doing this so I put the springs on after it was bolted (hand tight). Anyone else?

PS: Rum in cans??? SWEET!

As far as the springs on the Muzzy, they are just there for the old school look. And in fact some of us only had one spring and one set of spring loops when we received our Muzzy pipes. I guess Quality Control was a little lacking on the first run of pipes. The race mechanic that did all the work on my bike told me because of the mounting of these pipes, the spring doesn't do anything. Its a throw back from the two stroke look. And I agree. There is no way the pipe can come apart even without the springs.
