Another newb 2009 KLX250S owner

Hi guys, I just picked up a new 2009 KLX250S. Being an OLD motocrosser, I was looking for a new trail bike that was street legal. Like others, I almost bought the WR250R, but in the end it was nearly $1000 more that the KLX.

I bought this knowing not to have high hopes of the power being like my 2007 YZ250 smoker, but I must admit, it is pretty gutless.

So......you guys seem to know your stuff and I am pleading for a little help. What can I do to wake up this bike for under $100 and also under $300? I already took the choking snorkel off but that seemed to make the bike miss through the RPM range. I know the jetting is set up for SL and I live at 4000 msl.

I would like to keep the bike quiet but wake it up a bit. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Ringo

PS: The 4000 rpm break in limit is undoable. Glad to hear about varying the revs and doing fine.

Well if you want more power but want to keep it quiet...its seems like the best option is do get a klx300 muffler and header..as they flow much better....gear the sprocket 1 down in the front...rejet the bike...put a good airfilter on it...remove air box lid...

Call it a day

It's not going to compare to your KX250 as far as power.. So if that's what you want you may have made the wrong decision :)

That being said, to gain a good amount more power you'll need a big bore kit. No way around it. Basic mods will help but nothing will do what the big bore does for the same price.

Or do like me...

Stage 1....filter...irridium sparkplug...amr monster coil...jet 38/132...fmf header...hmf muffler...airbox lid removed...

Stage 2...351cc big bore kit

Stage 3...smile

I guess I didn't answer any of your questions huh? Under $100.00? 13-45 gears. Under $300.00? Hmmm jetting and a slip on? You should have said under $500.00, then I would have said 13-45, jetting and a used Muzzy. ;)

I've done most of the mods on here but the AMR MONSTER COIL is a new one to me! Tell me more - what's the benefit?!! Is this something I can't live without? :)
