Default Almost a wipeout

I know the phrase wipeout was only cool in the 80's

On my way out of my neighborhood I was a little slow clicking down the gears while I was getting ready to turn the corner. I started to turn, blipped the throttle, down shifted into second and released the clutch (perhaps not to smoothly) and felt my rear tire slide out to the left as I was making my right turn. Luckily I was going pretty slow and nothing happened but it did make my heart jump for a second.

I already learned it in my MSF class but to reiterate, never down shift in a turn!

PS I'm pretty new to riding.

Way to save it man! Watch those parking lots where they put down the ice melt. That will sneak up on ya.

My daughter dogs sits for a lady who just spent the last 3 days waiting for her son to come out of a coma.
Planted his face in what sounds like a low speed fall. His nose was on his cheek, brain damage possible. Can no longer show emotion and is having memory issues. plus stutters. May take a year to see how much damage was done.
Just running to the store, didn't wear a helmut.
I am/was occasionally guilty of that myself, no more. Helmut and gloves at all times from now on.

I've had some exciting turns in the wet and in the spring when there's a little scrub on the road. Those white lines get a little slippery, too!

I try not to push the knobbies too hard, but I love leaning this bike.

You all are suggesting I try to slide the rear tire out on purpose???

Was my technique correct? Is that how they get the motards to slide there rear wheels out? Letting the clutch out mid turn?

I dont know I think I like it more when the tires are firmly planted.

I did that once when I first started riding. It scared the **** out of me. I think that was the same day I did a wheelie too by accident lol.

Helmets = No brainer. My thing is I don't understand how someone can where just a beanie style helmet. Sure it protects the top of your head. But it has no facial protection what's so ever. Sure in accident you can say you came out not a vegetable. But you're definitely not going to look pretty when your looking at your teeth when they're jammed through your nose.

Here's a video on how to drift:

Pretty cool
