Default Air filter question

I went to purchase a k&n air filter for my 09, can't seem to find one, do they make them or will one for a 06-07 fit? Or are there better ones than k&n?

Loco, I've always been a K&N fan. I've used them on tons of bikes and cages. But if you're going to ride off road any with some other dirt bikes to any degree, I think I'd recommend a foam filter instead. I ran K&N's on my KLR650's over the years, but I didn't ride in dust clouds on single track or in long parades on 2-track. Even coming up on Jeeps, ATVs, and other bikes in places like CO and UT, I get around as quickly as possible. Riding with other dirt bikes in real dirt bike conditions, you just can't avoid lingering dust. I'm not sure K&N's work best in this environment. Take that for what it's worth to how you'll ride your bike. I just thought...you don't have an SM, do you?

+1 on foam filter. I had a Uni on my 06 and it worked very well, and had plenty of air flow from what I could tell. I've also heard reports of K&N letting in too much dust.

Don't get me wrong, I use K&N on everything else. I even have their crank case vents on my KTM.

Some guys really like the twin air filter that is backfire resistant, especially if they've removed the screen... https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...highlight=twin

That thread describes the screen removal and has links to the filter, but i dont recall if it fit the 09 generation bikes... I'm sure if you search you can find out, but it's an alternate to the K&N

I'm a No-Toil fan. Their filter kit is great and cleans the filter to new condition every time.

The 2009 and 2010 model KLX250S uses the Twinair 151109 standard filter. It's the same filter as these bikes:
  • KX125 - 1987-1989
  • KLX250 - 1990-1992
  • KX250 - 1987-1989
  • KLX300R - 1997-2010
  • KX500 - 1987-2003
  • KLX650A/R - 1993-1996

That's according to the Twinair Application spreadsheet which you can find here: http://www.twinair.com/usa/images/st...tion_Guide.xls

I have one installed in my 2010 model at the moment and it works a treat. I bought 2 so that I can pre-oil one while using the other. When it comes time to clean the one I am using I can just put the second one straight in and clean the other when I have time. The bonus of this is that I can let it dry properly before oilling it, and the oil solvents can fully evaporate before I use it again.

Another one for NoToil, cheap, last a while, and works real well. From what I've heard K&N is not a good dirt bike air filter.

Ah Man! The dealer sold me on my 09 cause it had a K&N!
I havn't riden to many dirt bikes so I can't really compare, but I haven't had any problems with my K&N. I rode 65 miles in the desert without any problems. Yes the filter was disgusting afterward, but it cleaned right up and I haven't had any problems.
