Default Air box breather, filter tube?

It hangs there and collects a ton of road grime. Yes it vents, but what?? Do I need it?? At this point it's more of a hassle to pressure wash it clean it then anything. Can I move it right to the bottom of the air box? I don't take it for a swim, so can you explain it to me?

It drains water that might get into the airbox, fuel that can drain back through the carb and into the airbox when the bike is laying on the ground, and even oil that was excessively applied during air filter service. By shortening the drain hose, you may run the risk of more dirt and grime making its way into the dirty side of the airbox, but that's probably not a massive problem. Personally I'd like to make the dust, dirt, and grime that you mention seeing at the end of the hose have as hard a time as possible making its way up to the airbox. One thing I'm curious about in your mention of what sounds like a fair amount of grime. Are you getting some engine oil coming out of this vent? Is your air filter over-oiled? Ideally, there shouldn't be much crud coming out of this hose to collect dust and dirt.

It's a couple different things. One, I was a little rich through most of the summer. Two, I now know that my exhaust was leaking a bit at the jug. Crappy FMF washer, brass seal, whatever it is, it was leaking. yes oil will occasionally drip that airbox line, once in a great while. I did lean the bike out from 3 turns to 2 and a half. Not enen sure if I really went in far enough on the screw. Sometimes this little beast acts like a 2 stroke, almost. different temps, humidity, hot, cold, skies the limit. For example I can richen it up to the point where it floods at idle on warm up, or I can lean it out, and when I'm in the top RRRRRs, It cuts out out like is starving for fuel. Don't get me wrong, I might still be rich, but I doubt it. Other then the case halves leaking, all I can see is the exhaust ring that FMF sent me with the pipe in the mail. Taking the motor out, I now see that the exhaust was leaking hard core too! Not sure what to think at this point, a number of things.
