I will be interested to see how the tyres hold up to a long trip. I'm planning a desert trip about 300 miles away near Moab, Utah at the end of next month. So 600 miles or so of tar and 2 or 300 of sand and dirt.

The main issue is going to be water and to a lesser degree, fuel. I will need 4 gallons or so of water, may be 2 of fuel to be safe. I have an idea and have ordered these:

I'm going to try to mount them as throw-over panniers with brackets on the dirtbagz frames just to hold them in, not to take the weight. Then put my Ranger saddlebags on top. If i could figure out how to post pictures I would but maybe I can link to a photos hosting site or something.

 

axel they'll get better mileage than I got out of the 606's on a big, heavy KLR650. I could get about 3000 on the rear. A KLX250 should do better.

 

i got about 2600-3000 out of a 606.

 

what size 606's did you choose?

 

+1,000,000,000 on the Dunlop 606, they are my only choice now. On my second one now.

 

Deej, your opinion was the one I was looking for, I think you ride some of the similar terrain i do in WA. I'm glad they have you're approval. But I'm with Mikey, what size are you guys running? Same as stock, or something better? I still have the stockers right now, this will be the first set of tires I purchase for this bike.

First ride on the new rubber on Monday.
12 psi front and rear.
Mixed terrain. Lots of rocks and gravel.
Moderate pace.
Nice easy trail riding.

I'm happy.
Lost the front a few times but nothing too bad.
Didn't crash. Which is unusual in itself.
Lost control of the rear once and ended up facing the wrong way on the track.
What was funny about that was the guys behind thought I meant to turn around and go back, not realising that my end swap was a lose.
Can't blame the tyre though.
Bit too enthusiastic with the right hand on the pea gravel.

Compared to the MX tyres I was using before, the 606s are much better, and safer, on the road.

All in all a good trail tyre thats legal on the road.

 

I used the 130.
But I have a 300 kit and a few other hot ups.

If I was on a stock or near stock 250, I might have gone the 120.

 

I agree with Neil, I have a D606 130 on the rear now, but think the 120 might be the best bet for this bike. Mines still a 2fiddy.
Neil what brand is that rim lock that came all apart on you.
