I am a dirt/dualsport noob looking to buy a KLX250S.

Question: will the aftermarket bits (specifically the various exhaust systems and the Clarke tank) developed for the '06/'07 KLX250S fit the '09 model? Or is that unkown at this point?

I'm wondering the same thing. I don't think they changed the frame at all, so I'm thinking yes. But I still need to see how the back fender affects things. Yes, I do think it's ugly but quite recoverable with a hacksaw just below the tailight with just enough plastic left over to mount the plate. Picture it....

 

I don't think anyone really knows yet, but I would speculate that any exhuast that worked on an 06/07 would work on an '09. The tank is another story. The '09 has a new saddle and radiator shrouds that would likely not quite line up with the mounting holes molded into the Clarke tank.

I am leaning towards an '06 (used) or '07 (new), since there are proven aftermarket parts available, and loads of info here on what to do with them. I'm a wrenchin' noob too!

Get the 06, its the best. Of course I have to say that because mine is the 2006. But hey there is a good skid plate, a few pipes, a couple of gas tanks and other mods available. Good luck.

Oh and the reason that have ends up as ahve is because spell check added it and now it doesn't show up as wrong. Stinking spell check, now I have to proof read everything I type now. Dont choose an 06/07 for the looks or aftermarket parts, choose it for the extra suspension travel !

I'll be retrofitting the green part of the rear fender on mine as soon as I can get one.
