Default advice please.

what can I do to add to my top end without effecting my bottom end.this little bike puts around at 5mph just fine without chuggin and that is exactly what I need as I ride with four wheelers.I topped my bike out today at 71 mph but was hopeing for more.It is a 09 with no mods and about a 100 miles on it.

Do you have a pipe or any jetting mods done?
I noticed quite a differnce in top end when I put a pipe and jetting etc. The bike revs more freely, and seems to cruise at a lower rpm than before.

It's a 250 dual sport, if you wanted a fast bike you bought the wrong one.

100 miles! Dude u should be breaking this bike in. The bike loosens up and gets faster with time, as i have found out with my 09.

I do believe I bought the right bike for my needs.light, liquid cooled and in my opinion the best in the 250 class.I was just expecting 75 mph.I know this is not a rocket.when I get it in the bush it will be more then fast enough.thanx

I know that I am still in the break in period but after doing alot of reading I am more confused then when I started.some people say break it in slowly, some people say just drive it and others say break it in hard.for about the first 40 miles I was using the factory info runnin at 4000 rpm then the next 60 miles I moved up to 6000 rpm.hopefully the other 4mph will come with time.thanx

Don't be confused. It's simple. Change your oil and filter then go out and ride the bike like you would any other bike. You will not hurt ANYTHING. That 4000 rpm BS is just that BS. Just don't chug the motor or bounce off the rev limiter for a while.
Keep your oil fresh and your air filter clean and your all set.

75 huh....ok...I know this one. Pipe and rejet and gear down to 13;42 or 14:45 perhaps 14:48......You'll be able to do 75 and still accelerate more...all bee it slowly.....rpms are going to be high too....lol....been there done that. But the lil klx can take it for hours .... no problem.

Obviously a klx 300 piston or bigger would solve this issue...without lowering the gearing.

Break it in man. My '07 will hit 90 on the speedo and it's all stock. As it broke in, it got faster. 100 miles is way too soon to be pushing the top end.

The oil in the bike is break in oil. It should be left in as per the manual and break in procedure.
