hey everyone. i live in fl so it gets pretty warm down here. i'm looking for a good off-road riding jacket with a few pockets thats breathable and won't bake me on long trips. any advice?? thanks.keith

 

Why not use one of those mesh street jackets. It has elbow, shoulder and back armour that should work off road (you can also remove all or some of it), and will prevent abrasions. Some also come with a waterproof/windproof liner if it is cool in the morning or it starts to rain. They range from $60-170.

I'm going to buy one for sport touring this summer on my BMW.

I use a moose expedition jacket, year round. when i got it i thought it might be to warm in summer, but its not bad. and plenty of protection.

 

I use a TourMaster Jett. It has removable hard armor in the elbows/shoulder, built in paddding in the elbows/shoulders, and removable back protection. It has a warm liner that can be zipped out and the shell by itself is pretty comfortable on warm days. It also has zippered vents on the arms, chest, and back that provide good ventilation. For $99 I think it's pretty hard too beat.

 

I've been wearing Joe Rocket Phoenix mesh gear since it came out. I wear the latest version (4.0) on the street and use one of my older ones for dirt. Ditto on the Phoenix pants.

 

Plus 1 on the Joe Rocket Phoenix mesh gear. Works good lasts long time.

I have been a "crash test dummy" a few times with that gear on and I've survived all the get offs. Guess it works. I've not tested it on the street however, so offer no opinion there!

I was just about to plunk down $140 for the Shift XC Jacket...

All the reviews I've read have plenty of good things to say about it. The sleeves zip off and store in a back pocket, plus it has elbow pads/guards and plenty of zip vents. I'll let you what I think soon as it gets here.

 

Joe Rocket here too, I'm also in FL and was pretty surprised how much ventilation it has with the liner out.

 

Personally, I picked up a Fieldsheer, and it is absolutely dynamite!!!!

It fits like a glove, has the removable armor, has the additional liner inside, works great for warm weather or colder weather. It was 140 bucks, but this thing RULES!!!!!
