I was thinking that too. Problem is the gas isn't going to stay there from what it looks like. If you could hold it long enough for the bike to fill up the bowel and the lines again you'll have that much but the rest of the gas will go right back down into the wings again. I gotta say.... unless I'm missing something, that's pretty dumb and pointless of them. They may as well just not have put those dips there because the gas is just always going to lay there. And technically speaking,... extra weight. Not to mention the frustration if you run out knowing you still have a quart of gas laying in each wing that you can't use.

What does the stock 300 hold? Isn't it like 2.6 or something? Plus its plastic so that's a weight saver. Not that the small thin metal one we have now weighs much to begin with.

I do really like the looks of this tank though. Just something about it.

I ordered a vacuum actuated pump to install when I put the long range tank on. It will scavenge the fuel from teh wings of the tank. There is a great write up on here somewhere on ADV for this mod. I will see if I can find it.

You have to read the whole thread. The first pump he uses does not work very well.

the chokes really close, but you can pull it out some and hold it to get the bike to start in cold weather.

Good shot of the petcock/choke interface. I think I will try shortening the choke rod a little. I fabricated a mounting plate for the pump I picked up today. The tank came in but the post office is closed till monday.

here is the fuel pump set up for getting the fuel out of the wings.

The vacuum actuated pump runs off the vacuum port on the front of the carb (the lower right hand hose). I ran it with the stock tank for a whiel and it wowrks well.

I whipped up a different petcock using a chunk of Aluminium bar and a side gringer with a zip blade

I put together a tee fitting with lengths of gas line and insterted them inside the tank through the petcock hole in the tank. You can see the shadow of one of the lines going into the wing.

I will probably use the stock petcock with this setup, and then I will be able to swap out the tanks easily, witht the idea of only using the plastic tank for planned long trips, and the stock tank for comuting to work etc.

There is a link to the whole job on ADV here

I just modified it a bit.
