Does anyone know if a Acerbis KLX300R tank will fit a KLX250S other than the radiator fan issue???

Other party states it's off a 1998 KLX300R.

What do the masses say??

thats the only true bolt on tank..... fits, but its fugly.

That is a funny looking tank but.....3.7 gallons! and it actually fits our bike... I would guess unibiker rad gaurds wouldn't fit under it??

Can anybody that has this tank tell Us how easy it was to install?

 

It's cake to install... No mods required. But I am a little annoyed at the design.
The wings hold a substantial amount of gas below the height of the petcock (about 0.8 gallons in my tank).
So even with the petcock on reserve, I can be cruising down the highway and run out of gas with nearly a gallon of gas still in the wings.
That makes me very frustrated.

I've heard of a guy rigging up some suction lines at t-fittings inside the tank to address the issue... Supposedly it works, but it sounds kind of hard to do.

 

how could it suction?That's what i want to know.The gas is gravity fed from the tank to the bowl.You could always rig up a vac mikuni diapghragm pump but you'd need a spring loaded float to run this....that's what we ran on the Briggs race kart motors....single feed mikuni vacuum pump and a spring loaded float so it wouldn't flood the carb....sounds like alot of aggravation tho.I definatley agree with the frustration of being able to haul that much fuel and not use it all....does tipping the bike work? or not?

 

When you runs out of gas, you can rock and tip the bike to "splash" a small amount of gas up into the petcock area, but it only gets you about a mile if you're lucky, then you pull over again, rock & tip, go another half mile, and repeat...

I believe the t-fitting thing creates suction by the siphon effect - once gas is flowing it continues to suck because the outlet is lower than the inlet.

 

I don't mind the look; and it has held up on some hard bar bending crashes you can see it here

I fell over once with my Acerbis tank, and landed on a mount of dirt, just the right way so that the wing flexed inwards and the rad got mildly "squished" on the outermost row of fins.

The tank was just a little scratched, no worse for wear... The rad is slightly bent but fine.
I've been considering those unabiker rad guards, but I've been having trouble parting with the $100.

In the past I've made rad guards for my bikes in just a few hours with some scrap aluminum. But I seem to have less time for that fabricatin stuff lately.
