Default 3L4NS1R is back in business!

Well. Almost. Shook on the deal last night, picking up a 1996 KLR 250 next week! Turns out the lure of sports biking isn't as cool as it seems, and the road is no playground... So if you happen to know anyone in NZ who wants to buy a kick *** Ducati Monster, let me know!

Looking forward to heading out on this... picked it up for cheap enough to not care too much about it! Keep an eye out for an upcoming ride report. It'll happen!

Don't do it. I had a klr250. DO NOT BUY IT. My mountain bike (a pretty basic dual suspension item, BASIC) has better suspension. The KLR250 is just barely beyond a street bike, nowhere near dirt bikey enough to be a dual sport. I hope it's not too late to bail on the deal. Even if you have to do without a bike to save a bit more money to get a KLX, please do not buy the KLR 250.

Too late..

But I don't think they're that bad - it's what I learnt on with the army, and we rode them through some fairly knarly stuff - they're rough to ride but they're built to take it. It's more for commuting during the week and some escapades during the weekend - nothing too serious!

As long as your escapades on the weekend are real casual. The kick start only got me into some jams, lucky to have a buddy those times. And there is pretty much NOTHING available aftermarket. The Kenda 270 is about as good as it gets in a DOT rear tire. Have fun within the limitations.

Wow, that's a fairly negative attitude on what, in my experience, is actually a good bike. Electric start is for wimps anyway.

I guess our experiences were at different ends of the spectrum. The "Have fun within the limitations" wasn't meant as sarcasm. Really! Have fun!!! REALLY! Riding any bike is better than not riding at all.
edit: I prefer bikes with both the kick and the button starters, but if there going to be just one, I'll go with the button.

Yeah, funny that - might be because I've used them in the context of work, instead of play thus far? We'll see - in any case, it's the limitations that inspire me...
