Default 351 big blue, stock or pumper carb?

I've read and bookmarked all the great threads on the builds, just wondering if anyone has an update on how they are liking, or not liking the stock carb they stayed with or the pumper they added? And what was the effect on the mpg?

I'm leaning towards the pumper, but worried that it will kill my mpg

(that great advrider thread with the 115,000 mile review, has the pumper and gets 40ish mpg)

I've got the acerbis tank, but for dual sporting, want to try to have over 150 mile range.

for super moto, 120 mile range is fine.

Big bore is the most power added for the money. I've done it with a KLX650 and read numerous comments on doing so here and in the ADVrider forum, even with stock carb and pipe. It adds power over the entire range.

I'm betting the big bore outstrips the 36 flat slide significantly when it comes to added power. Wait and see what others say.

Only negative is the higher cost and the tear down required.

I have the cv carb, I get about 55-58mpg daily commuting ripping around town. There are times it stumbles and I can tell it's a vacuum carb. I want a pumper carb, TNC has one and I think he gets similar mileage at least I think that's what I've read. I would like the added throttle response. Right now it just feels mushy

My mileage actually increased with the pumper and that's no bull. I noticed the same thing on durielk's 351 setup with the 34mm pumper on a several day ride deal in Colorado. He whipped my CV carbed 300 setup at every fillup. When I installed the TM36 pumper on mine, I immediately increased mileage consistently at least 3-5 mpg...no kidding. Better power delivery and better mileage...crazy.

I think it mostly depends what you want out of your bike. The pumper adds snap from the bottom up, something you might not want if you're poking along gravel trails or treacherous mountain passes haha

Well...
I ran my CV carb for quite a while, and poking along trails was a problem with the CV. It just does not pull at low rpm very well.
Granted I did both mod's at the same time, but when your almost to the top of a climb and you just need that little extra juice, that Mikuni has the ticket compared to a CV.

Richard, I hear what you're saying, but when it comes to the KLX I don't think you have to worry too much about firebreathing, earth scorching snap on any trail...even with the pumper carb.

I dont hear goodmpg with the tm34 just fyi. 45-50 seems to be the norm
