Default WR250R v. WR250F

The KLX I was looking at is a SF with knobby tires. I didn't realize that the SF is not really suited for mostly dirt riding. KLX250S in a 2012 model appear to be available but for $5,000 grand vs the $4,000 they want for the SF.

But I do have one more question on the WR's. Would a WR250F be better than
a WR250R or KLX250S, as far as a dirt bike - more snap and power? Would it still need mods? Sorry to keep beating this Yamaha horse, but I had an IT125 back in the day, and I'm kinda sentimental. But I do like my KLX w/mods too.

Thanks for all your replies, they have been very helpful.

The WR250F is all Dirt bike, Yes more snap and power. Depends on what state you are in you can get a plate for it. They are very different bikes. Suspensions and motors are not the same.
