Well our topsoil ain't super sporty right now... and it hasn't rained in two weeks. Fourwheelers just EAT dirt and turn our sandy topsoil into super-fine light sand that is VERY deep. There's a couple miles of one of the trails we ride that is nothing but bottomless soft sand. The heavier sand isn't too bad.

 

Try stiffer fork springs.

the fork springs do help a lot, makes it cut turns quicker in the sand and feels less vage. as far as trails turning to sand, i know the feeling. the only good trails any more are illegal or soon will be, and even some of those are getting bad. the trails turn to silt, the silt makes whoops, those get deeper, and then it gets to a point its almost unrideable. i was talking to a guy at the last rally i did about trying to go from ocotillo wells to the boarder in the fall, he told me not to bother, its so whooped out thats its pointless and less thats all you like to do.

 

lol....Well you live on a cold rock, so that's ok that you find it amusing. But neil is dead right, to get through sand you are always accelerating or trying to and just slipping kicking up a roost trying to.

Slipper clutch would help that problem. Not that I've got the $$$ for that mod. I'd consider it if I rode sand 100%. As it is just keep it pinned.

 

It does seem funny to say but it's all about transferring weight to the rear.
And one way to do that is to accelerate.
Once you lose momentum and decelerate, the weight goes to the front and then you have problems in sand.
And don't be afraid to ride the clutch to keep the revs up if they start to die.

 

I was picturing a spot along a river where I ride. maybe a mile of soft sand with twists . I dont think my stock klx will accelerate this long! If it did i'd probably end up around a rock or out in the river anyhow. Thanx for tips tho, I will be trying them out in the sand pit. I can accelerate for 500 feet.

 

What does your sand look like? A stock klx really cannot get up and float on the soft stuff.....just seems to plow like a dozer.

Now at the time I had a 300 cyclinder and a muzzy ...... take a look at these old pics of my sand and compare to yours....acceleration beyond max comfortable speed was Never a problem ..... just sayin....never enough power for a 24hp machine.





Notice the 60+ hp adv floats..

 

For sure the KLX doesn't have the ideal power to weight ratio for really soft sand.
Just be aware of the principals and it will help you.
