I cannot recall the source of where I heard this, but some time after 2005 didn't KTM have to change their title designations on most of their off road bikes due to some dust up with the fed DOT? I have some Colorado friends who were complaining about this after a certain year, and it wasn't a state thing as much as KTM being forced to change a technical designation in the title description. Maybe I dreamed this.

I know their KTM350/500 EXC models are street legal.

My friend registered what is, basically, a new four stroke MX bike. He purchased it in 2015. It didn't come with lights or turn signals and most def wasn't meant to be street legal. He did this last year. I am seeing a lot of street titled KTM 2 strokes at local NETRA (New England Trail Riders) sponsored events.

Here, anyhow, you can do it.
