not surprised.. updates and new tech cost $ and in a niche market and bad economy money is hard to come by.

Crazy they keep bumping the price up every year. I remember my 09 was $3,999. For what they are asking now I would be very disappointed in the bike you get.

The '09 KLX was $4999 MSRP in the U.S. I don't doubt you could have purchased a new '09 for $3999. I kept a copy of Motorcyclist magazine when I was first considering a KLX, and the advertised MSRP of the '09 KLX was $4999. At some point with it going up $100 on the MSRP doesn't seem that strange. The Honda 250L isn't surprising either, as it was artificially priced fairly low to make its maiden voyage. I know for a fact that the Honda also had a super low markup for its first year. I saw it on the dealer paperwork at the motorcycle shop I used to work at. There was also a big drop in price on the leftover CBR250's. They haven't sold well against the leftover Ninja 250's or the new Ninja 300.

Kawi needs to come out with a KLX450 with a 4 gallon tank and a real 6th gear for the highway... and a better seat. I'd be all over it.

I'm with Wildcard - not surprised at all. I think we need to accept that by and large the KLX250S is effectively an End-of-life product on life support. It's not going to see a lot of attention for a while as Kawasaki have established it as an "economical" motorcycle now, so customers will not be willing to pay much more than the KLX is selling for now... that means Kawasaki will struggle to recover any R&D costs on a new model. I could be wrong though.

Yeah, the KLX450 here is Aus basically hasn't changed since it's first introduction. I reckon the KLX450 has a greater chance of a refresh before the KLX250 as the KLX450 is effectively based off a fairly recent version of he KX-F platform which has seen a lot of development in recent years. Kawasaki could take their learning from adapting the KX-F to the KLX450 to do a quick and dirty upgrade to the KLX450. Although the KLX250 originally shared a lot of DNA with the KX-F 250 the bikes have gone down significantly different paths over the years though. This means even if Kawasaki base a new KLX250 off the KX platform it will require quite a lot of development.

Although there has been a large shift to EFI in dirt bikes in the last few years, there are still a few manufacturers holding off and sticking with carbs as they are more reliable than EFI (e.g. the Beta RR - AWESOME bike). Having had a fuel pump fail on me with my Husky TE450 I can understand their conservatism, although I am still an EFI fan. A 6th gear and better fuel capacity on the current KLX450 would be good too.

We dont get the KLX450 in the states. KLX140L is the biggest off road bike here from Kawasaki.
