Hey Higgs, sorry to hear about your troubles. I've got about 110-120km on mine so far. I have had some issues getting into 1st but I'm rolling that up to inexperience. What they say is true in that you will have trouble trying to downshift from 6th to 1st at a stop without doing a lot of rocking back and forth. Glad to hear your dealer stood up for you and got you a new bike (even if it's only enroute at this point). I hope I don't get into those troubles!! My wife would be well less than pleased as she hopes to get a good deal of riding on this as soon as I get the lowering links put on

Yea if there are any new riders out there, remember that if you are in 6th or 5th and coming up to a stop light, you should be down shifting as you approach the stop sign, now you can shift down fromsay 4thto 1st in one motion with 3 clicks in a row without letting out the clutch, just don't be going too fast as you get it into 1st gear.... one it clunks in pretty hard, and second if you let out the clutch too fast or while rolling and happen to be near the back brake you will skid the back tire.

my 750 doesnt like stopping in a high gear either.... i have to down shift as i stop... good riding practice anyway, in case you have to give it gas again, your in the right gear to get out of the way or something.

Wow lots of methods here. Rocking the bike just wears you out and I personally don't like turning the engine off for that purpose.

An easy, sure fire way to get into any gear while stopped is to just slightlyengadge the clutch whilelifting the shift lever. Works every time if you remember to do it.

I usually don't have any problems with the tranny. Except maybe the once in a while lazy left foot. And trying to downshift from a higher gear to 1st while stopped.

That's an excellent point, especially when dealing with something low on power like the KLX, if you try to gas it in too high of a gear, it's just going to bog on you and that could lead to trouble in the wrong situation.

[rant]I boughtmy first bike... 09 klx250s (green) last Saturday, they'vebeen hard to come by in Toronto (that may have been the first one... no other dealer still has any in green). Supposed to take delivery on Friday and i get a call from thedealer/shop saying that my klx was damaged when they opened the crate. fine, they had another one come in that day, so i got that one instead. Picked it up last night

I had a chance to drive it around for a bit and I noticed that some times it would be tough to get into first. I assumed it was driver error because I probably only have 10 hours total on a bike. Went out on it this morning and it wouldn't shift out of N after about 15 minutes of riding... it wouldn't click into first or second... or anything.
So it's back at the shop... waiting for some new linkage parts from KAWA under warranty. Hope this is the only issue I’ll have with it for a while... hopefullyI’ll have it for next weekend[:@][/rant]

someone please tell me this is unusual for Kawa. i did a lot of research before i bought and everyone who ohas one seems pretty happy with them.
I have had mine since may 08 and over 4000 miles and no problems except the recall for the throttle grips but they have been replaced and I love this bike!!!
