After going thru the motions of putting guards on mine, and seeing how vulnerable the rads really are without the shrouds hiding them from view, I'm happy I have them. I don't think it would take much to do some damage - I think even a little tip over the wrong way could lead to a damaged rad. But everyone is free to chose.

On line Kawasaki prices:
left radiator - $184
right radiator - $260

I am going to get something to protect my radiators....

I've crashed countless times. It took the forks of a John Deere tractor at 30 mph to kill my radiator, and ain't NO guard protecting from that.

I'm keeping my OEM parts for the next owner or for backup. Sorry.

My first "wreck" involved understeer and me drifting off of the trail about three feet. Fully upright, I came to a stop. I had run into some light brush and saplings, maybe 1" diameter stuff. One of those pecker poles made it into the gap between the radiator shroud and the bike. There was no hit and I stopped with brake power. Well that little pecker pole kissing my radiator was enough to break the plastic shroud (80$) and bend the radiator (260$?). I finished the ride. I was able to straighten the radiator and reassemble with unabikers and a new shroud. I believe the unabikers would have prevented all of this damage.

I know how to crash. I have skipped along the trails after being thrown off only to have to run back and find my bike upside down. This was an XR and I believe much tougher.

Our KLXs need more/better crash protection for trail use. They are very weak in this area. Well below average from the factory and parts prices are well above average.

Sounds like I'm waiting until late August for OEMs. I don't race. I don't ride tight, hard single track. I haven't rode trail in probably a year.. $14.98 for the plastic stock ones is a good deal to me Thanks for the help, everybody!!

That is a very good deal. Seems like parts for the KLX are super expensive. Perhaps the screens are the same for many models of bike so somewhat universal.
