Default 2009 klx 250s Cyclinder issues from piston pin

just an fyi for anyone that has this bike. I just got the 331 big bore done, and when john removed the old cylinder it had score marks from the piston pin scraping the sides. What happened was the hard working mechanics at Kawi decided one Circlip was all that was needed. Even though the schematics show 2, they only installed one. So, had i not gotten this work done my engine could have seized and i would have been SOL becuase warranty was over. I would suggest you bring this to the attention of your dealer and have them pull it all apart before your warranty is over so you dont run into any problems.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure someone will find it useful, mine did not have an issue though.

I'd say good luck in trying to get the dealer to strip the engine down just to have a look. If its not broke, they probably wont fix it!

Well said. It probably has to smoke like crazy in order for them to even think about it. Any other time, the same response, "Its normal".

I'd say the only way would be if u had one of them snake cams( Rigid makes one) and went thru plug hole to check for scoring of the cylinder. plug hole might be too small tho. Of course if u can hear the pin scraping - give it to her. wont last long! then bring it in.

More than likely they mis-installed the 2nd circlip or it failed. This is probably a very rare occurrence so I wouldn't worry too much. The engines a like tanks for the most part.

I lost a circlip in a Montessa engine. It caught in a port tore the piston up and embedded in the top of the piston and the compression dome of the head. Caused quite a mess.
